How Often Should I Get a Facial?

Whether you wear makeup regularly or suffer from problem skin, you can benefit substantially from adding regular facials to your skincare regimen. It is possible to improve several skin conditions with regular facials, which remove impurities and allow clear and healthy skin to resurface and show off your good side.

Sounds enticing, doesn’t it? Facials are deep, pore-cleansing treatments that rejuvenate the skin and create a smooth, hydrated complexion. Facials can achieve the best results when they are performed on a set schedule.

How long should you wait between facials? What vital factors can influence your facial schedule? In this article, we’ll answer these two critical questions.

How Long Should You Wait Between Facials?

There’s nothing quite like the warm glow and fresh feeling you experience after a facial. Deep cleansing, exfoliation, blackhead extraction, and toning serums are excellent facial elements that help obtain that fresh face glow.

Unfortunately, these effects don’t last forever. The immediate benefits of a facial tend to last approximately 48-72 hours after the procedure. However, intensive facial treatments that involve chemical peels and microdermabrasion can last between six to four weeks.

It’s natural to feel excited about your next facial appointment and want to schedule it as soon as possible.  Nevertheless, to get the most out of facials, you must get the timing just right.  To determine how often you should have facials performed, you should have a professional assess your skin’s condition and cosmetic goals.

The General Recommendation

Most beauty experts will suggest that you wait at least a month between facials because it takes about 28 days for skin cells to regenerate and rise to the surface. When this happens, the next group of dead skin cells will be ready to exfoliate. A monthly facial helps promote natural skin renewal, and it will help keep your complexion clear and evenly toned.

Scheduling your facial appointments closer than four weeks apart can cause skin irritation. If you have dry or sensitive skin, you should wait between 6-8 weeks between facials to avoid irritating your skin.

Not all facial treatments are created equally. Facials that include chemical peels, extractions, lymphatic drainage, and microdermabrasion are only recommended once every three to six months.

How Often Should You Get A Facial If You Have Sensitive or Acne-Prone Skin?

Depending on the condition of your skin, you might require facials more frequently. If you have oily or acne-prone skin and often have to contend with breakouts, clogged pores, and blackheads, scheduling your facials twice a month or every two-to-three weeks may be better for you.

Frequent facials during flare-ups are also highly recommended until your skin improves. Facials can be effective at helping improve blackhead, whitehead acne, eliminating scarring and discoloration.

Long Gaps Between Facials Aren’t Recommended

We all have the best intentions when it comes to our skin. Sometimes you might not have the budget for a monthly facial, or time constraints make it challenging to stick to the monthly facial schedule. We recommend getting a facial at least every three months or quarterly.

At the very least, you should be getting a facial every season since our skin reacts to the season and weather changes. You might even consider bumping up your facials during the fall and winter months since the cold weather dries out the skin and makes it more suspect to damage.

Facials work best when they are performed regularly.  After all, they aren’t fast fixes. Regular facials are imperative because they help you train your skin.

Keep in mind — if you take long gaps in between your facials, you will be less informed about your skin’s condition and current needs.

Frequency of Facials For Mature Skin

What many people don’t know is that age also plays a significant factor in determining how often you should be getting facials. Typically, younger people who don’t suffer from any skin condition require fewer facials than someone twenty years their senior. That’s because younger skin rejuvenates at a much faster rate than older skin.

Also, as we age, the skin starts to lose collagen and pigmentation. Wrinkled or aged skin can safely handle more frequent facials. If you’re looking to get rid of aging spots, smoothen out wrinkles, or reduce other types of blemishes that come with aging, facials every week or every two weeks are suggested.
