Skincare Trends for 2021

With each year that passes, we see new trends come and go. Some stick around for a bit while others disappear as quickly as they arrived.

Some of these trends make us scratch our heads and wonder what people are thinking. Other trends just make sense and we can’t wait to add them to our routines.

The skincare field is no exception when it comes to new and evolving trends. But how do you decide what is right for your skin?

At DulceLash and Skin, our stylists are experts and are constantly attending training in the latest trends. We wanted to share some of the top trends for 2021 to help you find the right skincare routine for you.

7 Skincare Trends for 2021

1) Clean Beauty Products

As consumers have become more conscious of what they put in their bodies and on their skin, more companies are creating products that use natural ingredients. We’re seeing more products containing things like CBD oil or bakuchiol — two of the most popular natural ingredients in clean skincare products today.

Consumers are also looking for skincare products that are paraben and phthalate-free and dye and fragrance-free. As you test new product ingredients, you’ll want to make sure that you test these new ingredients in small areas to avoid large allergic reactions.

2) Maskne (Mask Acne) Treatments

Due to increased breakouts caused by daily mask-wearing, many acne sufferers will seek out treatments in 2021 that aim to reduce acne breakouts and reduce hyperpigmentation and scarring from prior breakouts caused by wearing masks.

Increased breakouts occur around the areas covered by our masks (jaws, cheeks, nose, chin, and around the mouth) due to friction from the masks and bacteria growth due to the moist environment beneath the masks.

These breakouts can be kept in check with the right products and the right mask materials.

3) Personalized Skincare

Not everyone has the same skin care needs because not everyone’s skin is the same. Because of that, consumers are looking for skincare products that meet the specific needs of their skin.

Neutrogena’s Skin360 Face Scanner app and companies like Vitruvi and The Buff aim to solve this problem and deliver customized solutions. They allow consumers to answer questions about their skin’s current condition and their skincare goals to help consumers find the correct products to meet their own unique needs.

4) Refillable Products

If you’re concerned about your skin as well as saving the environment, there are now refillable products on the market that allow you to cut down on waste while still keeping your face looking gorgeous.

Beauty Heroes launched several products in 2020 that allows their customers to refill their products and cut down on their waste.  Other notable companies with refillable products include ColourPop, Myro Deodorant, L’Occitane, and Gelo.

5) At-home Chemical Peels

At-home beauty treatments have been on the rise, and consumers are looking for ways to achieve similar results to those they would get in-office from the comfort of their own homes.

At-home chemical peels aren’t as strong or effective as those used in the esthetician’s chair, but still deliver the same overall effect. Consumers use chemical peels to address sun damage, fine lines, acne, hyperpigmentation, and uneven skin tones.

6) More Beauty/Skincare Tools

What are beauty tools, you ask? Well, they are products one can use to help enhance their skincare routine. Beauty tools address different goals and benefits that will help give your skin the love it deserves.

One of the most popular items, the jade roller, aims to reduce your skin’s puffiness and inflammation, as well as increase your skin’s circulation. Other popular beauty tools include konjac sponges, facial brushes, and bamboo cloths.

7) Cruelty-Free Products

A cause that means a lot to people the world over is stopping animal cruelty, so products that are cruelty-free (not tested on animals) are in higher demand than ever before.

Companies recognize the market’s need, and many are transitioning to producing cruelty-free products. Companies with cruelty-free products include ELF, First AId Beauty, Glossier, Goop, Murad, etc. No matter your budget, there are cruelty-free products available to you, so you don’t need to worry about breaking the bank.
