Preparing for Your Eyelash Extension Appointment: The Dos and Don’ts

You finally did it – you made the appointment to get the eyelash extensions that you’ve been dreaming about. If you’re new to the eyelash extension scene, you might not know what to expect, how long it will take, things you should do, and things you should avoid.

Preparing for an eyelash extension appointment goes beyond showing up at the salon. There are essential steps you can take beforehand to ensure optimal results, longevity, and overall satisfaction with your new lash look. Equally necessary are the precautions you need to observe to avoid any mishaps or potential damage to your natural lashes.

This article will discuss some tips for preparing for your eyelash extension appointment. So whether you’re a first-time lash enthusiast or a seasoned pro looking for a refresher, these tips will help you achieve the best possible outcome while maintaining the health and beauty of your natural lashes.

Preparing for Your Appointment

Showing up fully prepared for your eyelash extension appointment means following some common do’s and don’ts as advised by your lash technician.

Appointment Preparation Dos

Wear Comfortable Clothes

Going into your appointment, it’s important to know that you will likely be there for two to three hours, so wearing comfy clothes is recommended. Take this time to relax and enjoy the pampering that comes with your lash extension experience.

Remove Contact Lenses

If you wear contact lenses instead of glasses, you know they are susceptible to irritation and discomfort if proper care is not given. Therefore, before your appointment, it’s recommended that you remove your contact lenses to allow your eyes to be comfortable and in a “natural” state.

However, some patients prefer leaving their contacts in. That’s fine if you are more comfortable doing so, but know that your eyes will be closed for most of your appointment.

Be Prepared to Keep Your Eyes Closed

And on that note, your eyes will likely be closed for most of your appointment. Your lash technician will review specifications with you, but they will use sharp tweezers and lash glue throughout your appointment. The glue may emit fumes that can cause eye irritation as well.

Your technician will let you know when the process is complete and when it is safe to open your eyes. But while your eyes are closed, kick back and relax. Listen to some music or a podcast through headphones, and enjoy being pampered.

Appointment Preparation Don’ts

Wear Makeup

All makeup worn on or around the eye needs to be removed before your lash extension appointment. Every lash technician wants to start with a clean eye area, meaning that makeup removal shouldn’t happen in the car or when you sit down.

Many technicians even recommend not wearing mascara for up to 72 hours before your appointment to ensure your lashes are easy to clean with a professional lash solution upon the start of your appointment.

Eyelash adhesives, glue, and oils should also be avoided before your lash extension appointment. Your lash technician shouldn’t have to spend more than a few minutes cleansing and prepping your lashes for our extensions. The less “preparation” time involved at the beginning of your appointment, the more lashes that can be applied during your lash service, and the better the result.

Wear Face Creams, Eye Creams, or Sunblock Near Eyes

Face creams, eye creams, and sunblock can contain oils and other moisturizers that make it difficult for lash extensions to adhere to your natural lashes. To make your lashes last longer, avoid using creams that may get on your natural lashes. This can also have an adverse effect on the longevity of eyelash extensions, as they won’t adhere as long.

Curl or Perm Eyelashes

If you’re getting eyelash extensions, you might think that having them “fluffed up” before your appointment will make the extensions really pop. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Your lashes should be in their best and most natural state for the best eyelash extension results.
